2016-2017 Scholarship Recipients

Incoming OSU Students

Benjamin Gastier (Edison)

Benjamin’s many accomplishments include National Honor Society, Commended Student in the National Merit Scholarship Program, Football Team Captain & First Team Division V Northwest District, Academic All-Sandusky Bay Conference in three sports, class rank #2, and volunteers with his church’s youth group.  Benjamin plans to major in engineering at OSU and is the recipient of the Alumni Scholars Program Scholarship which is awarded to our top rated candidate.

Lisa Gies (Huron)

Lisa’s many accomplishments include National Honor Society Vice-President, ranks #1 in her class,  Student Council President, Captain of Cross Country, Basketball and Track teams, Academic All Conference in three sports, American Legion Citizenship Award and volunteers for Erie County Special Olympics and many youth sports programs.  She is the recipient of the Steven Dreffer Memorial Scholarship.  Lisa plans to major in Psychology and later a degree in Neuroscience.

Keegan Hall (Edison)

Keegan’s many accomplishments include National Honor Society, Football Honorable Mention All-Ohio, French Honor Society Member, Key Club Treasurer, and youth football and basketball camp volunteer for four years.  He also served as a set up and teardown volunteer for two local festivals.  Keegan plans to majoring in engineering at OSU.

Abby Pitts (Perkins)

Abby’s many accomplishments include National Honor Society, Golf 2nd Team All SBC, Academic All Ohio, Aim for Excellence, Ohio Leadership Camp for 9 years, Pirates for Peers, and ranked #1 in her class.  Her volunteer service includes Make a Difference Day at a local nursing home.  Accepted in the Fisher College of Business, Abby plans to major in marketing, hospitality and leadership.

Clay Goodwin (Edison)

Clay’s many accomplishments include National Honor Society, Key Club Vice-President, Math Club Treasurer, Team Captain in Football in which he set 3 individual school records and chosen 2nd Team All SBC, Basketball Team Captain, and volunteered for set up and tear down of two local festivals. Clay plans to major in Chemistry at OSU with future plans to become a Pharmacist.

Abigail Dresser (Perkins)

Abigail’s many accomplishments include National Honor Society Officer, Scholar Athlete in three sports, Rotary and Elks Student of the Month, Aim for Excellence, Student Council, Yearbook, and Pirates for Peers.  Her volunteer activities include Safe Harbor, Safety Town, and the Nehemiah Youth Center.  Abigail plans to major in Biology at OSU.

Tyler Scott (Edison)

Tyler’s many accomplishments include National Honor Society, Class Treasurer, Football Team Captain, Basketball and Track member,  French Honor Society, Math Club and Varsity E Club. He also completed over 250 hours of volunteer service at Fisher Titus Medical Center. Tyler plans to major in Biology, minor in Neuroscience at OSU and later become a Neurosurgeon.

Imani Pace (Sandusky)

Imani’s many accomplishments include National Honor Society, Student Council, Rotary Club Student of the Month, Varsity Cheerleader Captain, Scholar Athlete for 4 years, and First Chair Viola for the SHS Orchestra.  Her volunteer activities include SHS Blood  Drive and Make a Difference Day.  Imani plans to get a degree in Biology as part of a Pre-Med program and later become a doctor.  Imani is the recipient of the William Werner Memorial Scholarship.

Jacob Caponi (Perkins)

Jacob’s many accomplishments include National Honor Society, Class Rank #1, Student Council Treasurer, Aim for Excellence Vice-President, Ohio Model United Nations, Founder and President of the Environmental Club, and volunteers for American Red Cross. Jacob plans to major in Neuroscience and International Studies at OSU.

Owen Moyer (Edison)

Owen’s many accomplishments include National Honor Society, French National Society, Student of the Month, Football Team Captain, 1st Team All SBC, and 2nd Team All-Ohio Running Back, Basketball Team Captain and serves as a youth camp volunteer. Owen is currently undecided on a major at OSU.

Current OSU Students

Varun Subashchandran (2013 graduate of Perkins High School)

Varun is studying Pre-Medicine, majoring in Biology with plans to enroll in a medical school to pursue a degree in medicine. A Dean’s  List Student for 4 semesters, Varun’s activities at OSU include Chimes Junior Class Honorary,  Philanthropy Chair for Alpha Lambda Delta Honorary, Alpha Epsilon Delta-Pre Medicine Honorary, College Mentor for Kids-Ohio State Chapter and the Indian American Association.

Zachary Frederick (2014 graduate of Edison High School)

Zachary is studying Aerospace Engineering at OSU with plans to work in the aerospace industry.  He will intern this summer at NASA Plum Brook Station.  His activities at OSU include the Design/Build/Fly engineering team, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics – OSU Student Branch, and Sigma Gamma Tau—Engineering Honor Society.   He is the recipient of the Hancock Engineering Scholarship.

Elise Gastier (2012 graduate of Edison High School)

Elise is studying Veterinary Medicine, majoring in Biology with plans to become a Mixed Practice Veterinarian.  Her activities at OSU include Women’s Club Volleyball, peer mentor for College Mentors for Kids, student dancer for Buckeyethon and volunteers in the small animal ICU.

Tyler Puckrin (2014 graduate of Perkins High School)

Tyler’s Field of Study is Biology and Agriculture with a Major in Agronomy and a Minor in Ag business.  Upon graduation he hopes to seek employment in the field of genetic engineering.  Due to his rigorous course load, he puts all his effort and time into studies and classwork.

Brandi Heidl (2012 graduate of Edison High School)

Brandi’s major at OSU is civil engineering with future plans to become a county engineer.  Her activities at OSU include Canter for the OSU Saint Thomas Moore Catholic Newman Center and membership in Engineers without Borders.  She is the recipient of the Hancock Engineering Scholarship.
